OUR BEHAVIOUR POLICY
APS = Active Primary Sports
This is the document of the aims, principals and strategies for Active Primary Sports and their workers.
This Document
This document provides a frame work for the creation of a safe, happy and secure environment where children can learn and develop as individuals and as part of a team. This is written for all members of the APS team and the users of our service to allow everyone to understand and apply it consistently and fairly.
Our Aim
• to ensure appropriate behaviour and language throughout all our sports venues
• to praise and encourage greater effort in both sport and behaviour
• to ensure that parents/guardians are informed and are aware of the disciplinary procedures
• to provide a system of rewards to encourage good behaviour by using assertive discipline techniques
• to ensure a safe, caring and fun filled sports environment
• to promote good team work and turn taking
• to promote self confidence
• to prevent bullying
• To be approachable at all times
• To give children the opportunity to discuss behavior or any issues they may have
APS Principles
• Every child has the right to learn but no child has the right to disrupt the learning and fun of others
• The establishment of a sound, positive and caring ethos is an essential pre-requisite for learning.
• It depends upon trusting relationships that APS welcomes and encourages the involvement and suggestions of the parents and guardians
Rules
All the rules have been devised over a period of time after various discussions with the children to hear their opinions. When these rules are given to the children there must be opportunity to discuss them and ensure that they are fully understood and accepted.
Expectation of children
• Follow instructions when first given
• Keep your hands and feet to yourself
• Respect other people’s property
• Walk around venues carefully
• no bad language
• Always ask an adult if you need to go to the toilet or leave the room
• Do not share food with other children due to child allergies
Rewards
Children will be given rewards for good behaviour, hard work, friendliness, helpfulness and participation. These awards are usually given to children on the last day of the course in a presentation style format.
Various children will be nominated by APS staff and given awards as recognition of their achievements. Awards will vary from T-shirts, Trophies, Certificates and Sports equipment. These awards may change at last minute.
Consequences
If children do not abide by the agreed rules the following sanctions will be implemented in order
1. Verbal warning
2. Yellow Card (Means if child continues to mis behave a 2nd yellow card will be awarded)
3. 2nd Yellow Card (Child will sit out in the calm down area for 3 minutes)
4. Red Card (Parent Guardian informed at end of day)
5. System begins again
Please note: the course supervisor may speak to parents/guardians at any time.
Reason for Exclusions
Exclusion is considered by company director or APS Course Supervisor if a child has had a red card 3 times within a 1 week period. In addition to this the company director or APS course supervisor will consider exclusion for a fixed period of time if a child shows any of the following behaviour:
• Physical assault against other children or adults.
• Verbal abuse/threatening behaviour against a adult or child
• Bullying
• Racist abuse
• Damage
• Theft
• Persistent disruptive behaviour
Monitoring
In light of this policy APS and all coaches involved will continually monitor the behaviour throughout all our activities. After twelve months the effects of this policy will be evaluated through consultation with all the parties involved, i.e. children, parents, staff. Agreed changes to this policy will then be incorporated as necessary.
